Xander twitches inward and rubs at his chest as though that actually hurt, and that smile’s still on his face. But she was opening up to him and telling him some of the heavy shit she’d seen in her life. That did, actually, surprise him. He didn’t show it on his face, but that was some hardcore shit she’d dealt with. “If you’re trying to drive me away, it’s not working,” He motioned to the waitress for two waters, throwing her a wink and a smile when she nodded. “Mine’s either more or less deadly, depending on your stance on extreme sports.” Always lightening the conversation. And he definitely noticed that despite the fact that she was telling him just how dangerous she was to be around, she wasn’t leaving. She had, in fact, gotten closer. Now they were both sitting on the same side of the booth instead of across from each other. Not that he minded, of course, danger was just another day for him, but he could see just how much it had affected her to be thrust into danger like that, probably without warning, too.
“Well, not typical, but it could be, depends.” Right now his life was actually pretty boring, what with all the having to lay low and make sure the NSA, the CIA and the various other alphabet soup agencies couldn’t find him and his crew. He snorts, “Nah, if I really wanna read a book, I’ll get it on tape and listen to it while I base jump.” Now he was doing it just to be a brat, because let’s face it–Xander Cage was still an eternal twelve year old in many ways. He nods. “I can respect that. I don’t think everyone’s mister–or miss–dare devil.” he felt the need to defend himself there. What Xander thought was truly scary was definitely far above what the average person thought was Too Much for them. So maybe his years of living on the edge of the edge had skewed his perceptions of what was daring. He could do wheelies in his sleep, he didn’t think that would have been too much for her. “I’m not gonna drag you skydiving with me, I was trying to be quiet, like….subtle.” So it wasn’t the right word, but subtle wasn’t exactly in his vocabulary anyway.
